Over Her Shoulder

Drawing of a Woman Looking Over Her Shoulder

i think i like this one. i just can’t get her bottom cheekbone to look quite right, oh well, but i think i like the empty space of the canvas length, today at least, tomorrow i’ll be thinking, why on earth didn’t i crop that?

This is beautiful… the girl surely must be as well, but the illustration is very good. I am quite envious. I cannot do human faces very well at all unless I really really cheat.

I have trouble with live subjects. I do better if I take a photo and then draw. But, I use CC0 photos for this site, because I don’t want to put up drawings of my people, you know?

I’m getting better at learning less is often more… like a little shadow or squiggle sometimes conveys face contours better than what I think I ought to draw.

Yeah… subtlety can be amazing sometimes. You’re way ahead of the curve from where I am, though, so keep up the good work!

You know, I’ve gone back and forth on this issue (of whether or not to caption). Here’s what I’ve decided: I caption for my benefit. It’s a way to say, this is what I thought when I finished this. It has nothing to do with the audience, or the perceived viewer, but with me. So that if I look back, I have a thought-guide to recall how I felt right then. And that’s why I’m drawing, for me, for my expression, so ultimately, it’s up to me whether I caption the pictures, so I do and I will.

Definitely! That’s the same reason i’m on here blogging, something I can look back on and see what I was thinking at my age (only 16 right now). That was just one thing that I noticed and wanted to comment on because it stood out to me, and I in no way meant you shouldn’t capture your pictures because you are right, ultimately it’s up to yourself. Great artwork once again! 🙂
